Lutheran Westland Vs Annapolis 6-43

The Warriors kicked off their 2008 season with a 43-6 loss to Annapolis. The Warriors trailed 30-0 at halftime, but played better in the second half. Ethan Haller and Stephen Kemp each had 17 carries for 87 and 75 each. Sam Alhersmeyer Led the defense with tackles.

Lutheran Westland Vs Harper Woods 6-27

Warriors fell to 0-2 with a tough loss to Harper Woods 27-6. An 80 Yard Harper Woods touchdown run and an 80 yard kickoff return did in the Warriors.Ehan Haller Led the warriors with 130 yards on 21 carries, Stephen Kemp scored the only touchdown for the Warriors. Sam Alhersmeyer once again led the defense with 11 tackles.

Lutheran Westland Vs Hamtramck 12-8

The Warriors improved to 1-2 with a thrilling come from behind victory vs Hamtramck. Trailing 8-6 the Warrior defense forced a three and out deep in Hamtramck territory and got the ball back with 5 minutes to go in the game. The warriors then marched the ball down the field with a 15 play 52 yard drive. Fullback Stephen Kemp scored his second touchdown of the game with 4.4 seconds left in the game for the warrior victory.

Lutheran Westland Vs Lutheran North 14-27

Warriors fell to 1-2 with a 27-14 loss to Lutheran North. Stephen Kemp recovered the opening kickoff and then scored on a 8 yard run to give the Warriors a 6-0 lead. Lutheran North then scored the next 27 points. The Warriors closed the scoring with a 10 yard pass from Sean Rowe to Stephen Kemp, Rowe then added the 2 point conversion with a three yard run.10 penalties hurt the Warriors.

Lutheran Westland Vs Cranbrook 22-14

The Warroirs improved to 2-3 with a hard fought 22-14 victory over Cranbrook. After recovering the opening kickoff. The Warrors marched 48 yards on 14 plays ending with a 2 yard Stephen Kemp Touchdown run. The Warriors trailded 14-6 at halftime. In the Third Quarter the Warriors tied the game on a 3 yard Ethan Haller run, he also added the 2pt conversion. THen the defense took over holding Cranbrook to 5 total yards in the 2nd half. The Warriors intercepted 3 passes, 2 by David Moldenhaur and 1 by Sean Rowe. The Warriors took the lead in the 4th quarer on a 7 yard Ethan Haller Touchdown run. he also added the 2pt play.

Lutheran Westland Vs NorthWest L-W

Lutheran Westland Vs Detroit University Prep 34-18

Warriors improved to 3-5 defeating University Prep 34-18. After a slow start the Warriors put up 22 second quarter points to blow the game open, then the defense finished the game holding Prep to 37 second half yards. Ethan Haller led the way with 160 yards rusing and 112 passing. Stephen Kemp led the defendse with 11 tackles and 3 sacks. Sam Alhersmeyer had 10 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Lutheran Westland Vs Detroit Urban 7-6

The Warriors finished thier season with a hard fought 7- 6 victory over Detroit Urban Lutheran. Trailing 6-0 in the third quarter, junior Ethan Haller intercepted a pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown. Eric Shoats added the extra opint for the one point margin of victory. Defense was the story of the day for the Warriors as they held Urban to a season low 85 yards.

Lutheran Westland Vs Clarenceville 20-14 (OT)
Varsity football evened its record at 1-1 with a 20-14 overtime win at Clarenceville. Eric Shoats returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown and Billy Meier added the 2pt conversion. In the third quarter the warrior defense made 3 goalline stands. The warriors mounted a 22-play 80 yard drive that ended with a touchdown.

Lutheran Westland Vs Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard 8-29
Warriors fell to 1-2 with a 29-8 defeat to Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard. Eric Shoats opened the scoring with a 49 yard touchdown run, and Billy Meier hit Nate Bachert for the 2 point play as the Warriors led 8-0. Sam Alhersmyer led the warriors with 10 tackles.

Lutheran Westland Vs Riverview Gabriel Richard 26-0
Warriors improved to 2-2 with a 26-0 win at Riverview Gabriel Richard. Billy Meier led the warriors with 11 carries for 85 yards at 2 touchdowns including a dazzeling 45 yard touchdown run. Ryan Richter added 65 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown. Ethen Haller added 47 yards on 11 carries plus a touchdown. Eric Shoats had a key 45 yard punt return. But the defense was the story of the game. Sam Alhersmyer led the defense with 10 tackles. Ryan Richter added 7, Mike Greening had 5, along with Kevin Moody who had the only sack of the game.

Lutheran Westland Vs Hamtramck 37-0
The Warriors won a homecoming, the first one in many years. Warriors improved on the season to 3-2.

Lutheran Westland Vs Clawson 22-31
The Warriors fell to 3-3 on the season. They came out giving up two touchdowns. They came back and and were wining 22 - 21 in the begining of 4th quarter.

Lutheran Westland Vs Lutheran North 15-49
The warriors came out ready for this game, winning the first half 15-14. Eric Shoats had a long touchdown run. Billy Meier added the extra point. Ryan Richter had a great game.

Lutheran Westland Vs Cranbrook 28-12
Warrior football improved to 4-4. They beat Cranbrook on their homecoming.

Lutheran Westland Vs Lutheran Northwest 16-14
The warriors finished out there season 5-4 with a win over the crusaders. It was an emotional game as both teams played hard. The warriors came out on top to win Rusty back.

Lutheran Westland 24 - Clarenceville 20
Lutheran Westland opened its 2005 Varsity Football season by defeating the heavily favored Clarenceville Trojans 24-20. Josh Haller connected with senior James Refenes for two 18 yard touchdown passes. Mike Schatz ran the ball 31 times for 191 yards.

Lutheran Westland improved to 2-0 with a 46-12 victory over University Liggett. Junior Mike Schatz set a school record with 312 yards rushing on 20 carries.  Senior Paul Rosin had a touchdown on a 42 yard fumble recovery.

The Warriors fell to 2-1 after dropping a hard fought game to St. Clair Shores South Lake. The game was scoreless at halftime when South Lake scored 20 3rd quarter points. The Warriors were only able to muster 125 yards for the game vs. South Lake's 280.

Lutheran Westland 43 - Hamtramck 0
The Warriors improved to 3-1 defeating Hamtramck 43-0. The Warriors got it started on the 3rd play of the game when Mike Schatz scored on a 63 yard touchdown run. Schatz also had a touchdown run of 93 yards and a touchdown reception of 57 yards. Josh Haller also connected on a 69 yard touchdown pass to James Refenes. Brandon Ross and Eric Floetke both scored on runs. Jacob Tuomi-Galindez led the defense with 7 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Lutheran Westland 21 - Clawson 34
The Warriors fell to 3 and 2 with a disappointing 34-21 loss to Clawson. Josh Haller was 8 for 13 passing for 219 yards, he and James Refenes combined 5 times for 124 yards and a touchdown, Haller also hit Mike Schatz on a 75 yard touchdown strike.

The Defense was led by Alex Edwards and Jon Gartha who led the Warriors with 9 tackles each. Rob Considine added his 2nd interception of the season.

Lutheran Westland 6 - Cranbrook 55
The Warriors got crushed by the Cranes of Cranbrook 55-6 on Saturday. After marching the ball on a 17 play 80 yard drive the Warriors closed the gap to 14-6 with 4  minutes in the second quarter, then Cranbrook scored 20 points in the closing 4 minutes of the first half. The Warriors will try to keep their playoff hopes alive and fight to keep "Rusty" this Friday night.

Lutheran Westland 28 - Lutheran Northwest 35

The Warriors fell to 3 and 5 with a devastating loss to the Crusaders of Lutheran Northwest, sending Rusty back to Northwest for the first time in 4 years. The Crusaders scored 21 points in the last 6 minutes of the game for the victory. The Warriors were led by Mike Schatz with 241 yards on 40 carries and two touchdowns. Josh Haller threw touchdown passes of 9 yards to James Refenes and 4 yards to Paul Rosin. Paul Rosin led the Defense with 9 tackles and a fumble recovery. Brian Lefevere had 8 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Lutheran Westland 20 - Harper Woods 14
The Warriors closed out their season with an exciting overtime victory over Harper Woods 20-14. Josh Haller had 3 touchdown passes, setting a new school record with 13. Senior James Refenes had 6 catches for 55 yards, including his 8th touchdown reception of the year. Junior running back Mike Schatz had 38 carries for 150 yards, setting a new single season rushing record with 1403 yards.

The Warriors could muster only 96 total yards.  The combination of senior QB Billy Kahler and junior WR James Refenes hooked up 5 times for 59 yards.  Sophomore Mike Schatz led the defense with 5 tackles.

The Warriors evened their record to 1-1.  Kevin Bartos led the way with 170 yards on 10 carries and touchdown runs of 51, 11, and 70 yards.  Billy Kahler hit Mike Schatz on a 54-yard passing play.  Schatz also scored on a 35-yard touchdown run.  Chelston Ross returned an interception for a touchdown.  Jacob Galindez-Tuomi led the defense with 9 tackles.

Varsity Football fell to 1-2.  The Warriors scored on an 84-yard kickoff return by Jacob Tuomi-Galindez, a 3-yard touchdown run by Mike Schatz, and a 32-yard touchdown pass from Billy Kahler to James Refenes.  Billy Kahler was 14 of 24 for 166 yards, and James Refenes had 8 catches for 85 yards.  Mike Schatz led the Warriors' ground game with 67 yards on 16 carries.  Kevin Bartos and Mike Schatz had 11 tackles each, and Jon Gartha added 10 tackles.  Jon Gartha and Declan O'Rourke each recovered a fumble.

Varsity Football fell to 1-3, ending Hamtramck's 38-game losing streak.  The Warriors could not overcome a dreadful 1st half in which they gained only 30 yards of offense and committed 6 turnovers.  The Warriors scored on touchdown runs of 45 and 39 yards by Kevin Bartos.  Five Warriors had six tackles each: Mike Schatz, Pat Higgins, Jacob Tuomi-Galindez, Chelston Ross, and Kevin Bartos.

The Warriors fell to 1-4.  Mike Schatz scored the Warriors' lone touchdown with a 62-yard run; he had 142 yards on 16 carries.  James Refenes, Brandon Ross, and David Hammer had 3 tackles each.  Kevin Bartos had 4 tackles.

The Mustangs of Lutheran North scored early and often to defeat the Warriors 0-39 and to drop the Warriors to 1-5.  The Warriors were led by Mike Schatz with 26 carries for 86 yards.  Patrick Higgins led the defense with 7 tackles.  Mike Schatz, Jacob Tuomi-Galindez and Josh Davis had 3 tackles each.

Mike Schatz had the Warriors' lone score on a 4-yard touchdown run in the 1st quarter, giving the Warriors a very brief 8-7 lead.  Billy Kahler was 6 of 14 passing for 44 yards including 3 to James Refenes.  Jacob Galindez-Tuomi led the defense with 7 tackles.  Paul Rosin had 6 and James Refenes had 5.

Mike Schatz led the Warriors with 156 yards on 24 carries and 3 touchdown runs of 53, 47, and 9 yards.  Billy Kahler hit James Refenes with a fourth-down 10-yard touchdown pass.  The defense held the Crusaders to 129 total yards.  James Refenes, Ron Udell, and Josh Davis had 5 tackles each.  Pat Higgins had 3 tackles and 1 deflected pass that led to a James Refenes interception.  Higgins also caused 1 fumble and recovered 1 fumble.  Declan O'Rourke had 2 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries.

Lutheran Westland – 6      Harper Woods – 33

Highlights for the Warriors included Billy Kahler completing a school record 17 passes; 8 were to James Refenes, who set a new school record with 34 catches on the season.  Mike Schatz had 61 yards on 15 carries, giving him 763 yards on the season, the fifth best in school history and the most by a sophomore.  The defense was led by Chelston Ross, Mike Schatz, and Josh Davis, all with 7 tackles.  Alex Edwards and Josh Davis had fumble recoveries.  The Warriors end their season at 2-7.

Wolfram had 21 rushes for 131 yards.
McLaughlin returned 2 interceptions for TD's and caught 1 TD pass from Ryan Walker.
Neal Kemp and Dan Haller had 7 tackles each.

Jr. QB Andy Hess was 4-9 for 70 yards.
Jr. Ian McLaughlin had 3 catches for 62 yards.
Neal Kemp led the defense with 2 sacks, 4 tackles, and 1 fumble recovery.

The Warriors fell to 2 and 1,
suffering a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Knights of University Liggett 20-18.
Senior running back Joel Wolfram led the Warriors with 187 yards on 32 carries
and scored his 7th touchdown of the season.
Dan Jones scored on a 15 yard touchdown scamper, he had 26 yards on 6 carries.
Doug Haller completed a 4 yard touchdown pass to Andy Hess on 4th down in the overtime.
But the Warriors failed to make the conversion.  Dan Haller led the defense with 9 tackles including 1 sack.

The Warriors celebrated homecoming with a thrilling 20-14 overtime win vs undefeated Cranbrook!
Senior running back Joel Wolfram was the story of the game for the Warriors
with 42 carries for 247 yards and scored all 3 touchdowns.
He also led the Warriors with 10 tackles.  In overtime, Ian McLaughlin's 3rd interception of the year
helped seal the victory for the Warriors.  The Warrior defense was led by Wolfram with 10 tackles,
Simon Reinke, Andy Hess added 5 tackles each, Rob Sinclair, 
Dan Haller, Dan Jones, and Mark Yepp added 4 tackles each. 
The Warriors defense held the high powered Cranbrook offense to 142 total yards, compared to 316 for the Warriors.

The Warriors fell to 3-2 with a hard fought lost to Lutheran East 19-10.
The Warriors were led by Joel Wolfram's 126 yards on 33 carries.  Dan Jones had 66 yards on 6 carries.
The defense played very well, but 4 Warrior turnovers proved to be too much to overcome.
The defense was led by Dan Haller with 9 tackles, Dan Baseley and Rob Sinclair each had 7, 
and Simon Reinke and Neal Kemp with 6 tackles each.

The Warriors fell to 3-3 with a hard fought lost to Clarenceville 13-0.
The Trojans of Clarenceville had 194 yards of offense in the first half compared to the Warriors 11 yards.
The Warriors were held to a season low of 102 yards of total offense.
Dan Haller led the defense with a season high 19 tackles.  Simon Reinke had two fumble recoveries and
Ian McLaughlin notched his 4th interception of the year.

The Lutheran Westland Football Warriors fell to 3-4 with a 31-12 defeat at the hands of the Mustangs of Lutheran North.
The Mustangs held the Warriors to 35 first half yards, while jumping to a 25-0 halftime lead.
Doug Haller and Joel Wolfram scored on touchdown runs of 5 and 6 yards.
Mark Yapp led the defense with 9 tackles, Simon Reinke added 7, and Dan Haller had 6 for the Warriors.

The Warriors fell to 3-5 with a disappointing loss at Harper Woods Saturday 7 to 6.
Dan Jones got the Warriors going with a 57 yard touchdown run on the 2nd play of the game.
But in the 2nd quarter Harper Woods scored on a 7 yard touchdown run to go ahead 7 to 6,
and that proved enough to earn the victory.  The rest of the game was evenly played.
The Warriors finished with 154 total yards, while the Pioneers from Harper Woods had 145.
Dan Jones led the offense with 108 yards on 16 carries.
The defense was led by Simon Reinke, Dan Baseley, and Doug Haller:  Each had 9 tackles.
Ian McLaughlin had 2 interceptions (giving him 7 on the year and breaking the single season record held by Kevin Wade),
and Doug Haller got his first interception of the year.
The Warriors close out their season here, Saturday against the Crusaders form Lutheran Northwest in the "Rusty Bowl."

Joel Wolfram scored with 3 minutes to go to seal the victory and assure Rusty of another year of Warrior Bliss!
Andy Hess threw a 15 yard TD pass to Doug Haller for the other Warrior score.

Our Warrior football team finished their season with an impressive come-from-behind mud-bowl victory.
Down 26 to 6 in the fourth quarter, the final score was 27 to 26, Westland.
Three touchdowns were passes from Doug Haller to Joel Wolfram, Dan Baseley, and Rob Sinclair.
The fourth was a pass interception by Mike Clark that he returned for the score.
Congratulations to our five seniors who played a great final game:
Steve Jankowiak, Milt Ervin, Andrew Mackenzie, Mike Clark, and Glen Brewer.
