Policies
Use of Music Facilities
-
The Music room is not a general meeting place. You are not to use the room
or practice rooms without permission. Practice rooms are for LHWL sponsored
activities only.
-
Please store the folders in the cabinet. Folders must be available for
rehearsals.
-
Instruments are to remain in the lockers when they are not being used.
Please keep your locker locked.
-
Only percussionists, or those people designated by the director, may use
the percussion equipment. This equipment will be stored in the percussion
room when not being used.
-
When the rehearsal is finished, make sure all chairs are back in neat
rows. Please remember to return music stands and all other material that you
used back to its proper area.
-
Do not write on the music stands.
-
Absolutely NO gum chewing in rehearsals. Please dispose of your gum
properly in the wastebasket upon entering the music room.
-
Do not use the music room stereo or TV without permission.
-
Only designated accompanists are permitted to use the piano. Do not play
the piano unless you have been asked to.
-
There is to be no food or drink in the music room.
General Policies
-
Each choir and band member will be assigned a numbered folder that they
will be held accountable for if it is lost or damaged during the school
year. All folders are to be stored in the racks when they are not in use. A
25-cent fee will be charged for folders left out in the room. A fee
($3.00-$12.00) will be charged to replace a lost or damaged folder.
-
Each member will be given numbered music that they will be responsible
for. Lost or damaged music will be fined.
-
Always have a pencil in your folder for making notes. This will be part of
your grade.
-
Students are to be in their seats with the tardy bell rings.
-
The board will list all of the pieces we’ll be playing on a particular
day in the proper order. You must get them out at the beginning of class to
make transition time shorter.
-
Book bags are to be dropped off on the table by the door. Do not do other
homework in during rehearsal - doing so will question your commitment to the
group.
-
When your part is not being worked on in practice, you must wait quietly (or
practice your own part)…Talking and distracting is what you cannot do!
Grading
Policy
Performance and rehearsal
attendance (40 points):
You are expected to be at every rehearsal and performance without unexcused
absences or tardies. To receive an excused absence for any reason, you must
notify the director two weeks prior to a performance. Absences due to
work are NOT excused. Tardies are defined as:
-
Not being seated after the tardy bell
-
Being late to a performance or Westland Sunday.
2 points will be deducted for an unexcused tardy
20 points will be deducted for an unexcused absence at a performance
Procedure and cooperation (30 points):
Procedure and cooperation (30 points):
It is expected that all students in choir and band will be able to work
together as a group. Your attitude and behavior should reflect that goal. Five
points will be deducted from your grade each time you break any of the above
rules. I will speak to you personally if problems arise. The success of this
group depends on everyone’s cooperation!
Musicianship (30 points):
Attitude and effort during warm ups, sight-reading practice and rehearsals
are part of becoming a better musician. You are expected to do your best to
learn the music during class. 15 points of "musicianship" will be at
the director’s discretion based on observation. The remaining 15 point will be
determined through testing (i.e. Sight-reading quizzes, reading music…). If no
quiz is given in a particular quarter, the entire 30 point will be at the
director’s discretion.
